Oh babbbbby! This washed Kenyan is absolutely poppin' with fruity acidity and dark chocolate and floral notes; it is quite honestly just everything you want (and more) to have in the cup.
If you haven't heard of Vava Coffee, grab a seat (and a brew) and listen up. Vava Angwenyo is a woman with a vision to challenge the status quo and promote positive social disruption in the coffee industry. Her vision comes from an inborn Kenyan passion for coffee and a drive to promote sustainable production within Kenya and wider East Africa by tracing the production of high quality beans to the smallholder farmer who are working day in and day out- against major obstacles and with meagre resources to produce some of the world's best tasting coffees, often without understanding or appreciating the final fruits of their labour.
Vava Coffee is a Certified B-Corp made up of a group of passionate individuals and farmers working to one goal: using coffee to empower. Rather than give handouts, Vava Coffee gives hope for a better tomorrow to those it works with, their families and their communities, giving them a chance to earn a living, get out of poverty, engage in work activities they are skilled in performing and ensure sustainable livelihoods. Vava Coffee not only works with smallholder farmers throughout Kenya, but also has it's coffee gift bags made by groups of women in the informal settlements surrounding Kenya's capital, Nairobi.
A producer working closely with Vava is Nyokabi Mungai who owns and runs Mercy Estate in Kiambu County, bordering Nairobi in Kenya's central highlands where this incredibly delicious washed AB Top grade microlot is grown. Nyokabi's farm is located on the highly productive western slopes of the Aberdare ranges with coffee trees planted around 1980. Nyokabi also farms bananas and has dairy cattle for subsistence.
Since it's launch in 2009, Vava Coffee is consistently recognised globally for it's premium standard coffee as well as for it's remarkable social impact. Rightly so!
